at Connectors

Welcome to Connectors!

Connectors is a great place where people come together to develop new skills, meet new friends and be encouraged to participate in self-directed recreation activities!  The Independent Living Resource Centre provides 2 staff members to facilitate various activities throughout the day.  We provide the opportunities and instruction, and then you are free to choose which activities you would like to participate in.  If painting is your thing then jump right in! If you're not into visual art, try your hand at sports.  If you're not a sports fan, come by for a coffee and some conversation.  At Connectors, the choice is yours!

Connectors is a social drop-in program- no registration is necessary.

Connectors Code of Conduct:
  • The Connectors program is a place for everyone to feel welcome, equal and have fun.  All participants of the program are expected to treat each other and themselves with respect.
  • We count on you to use good manners and interact positively with everyone at Connectors.
  • There is plenty of time for you to take part in activities independently.  However, on occasion, we will have group activities and special events that you will be encouraged to be part of.
  • Remember that you can always approach the ILRC staff if there is a problem you need to discuss.

Things you, your parents, caregivers and support workers need to know:
  • The ILRC staff does NOT provide direct support to participants.  We are there to encourage participation and facilitate the program.

  • We are happy to work in partnership with participants and their families to address the individualized needs of participants. However, we CANNOT assist with medication, washroom use or feeding.  If a participant requires assistance with any of these things, support staff must accompany them.

  • Support staff is expected to be present and attentive towards the participant they are supporting.

  • We inspire people to make independent choices for themselves to ensure individuality in our program.  Participants are encouraged to make their own decisions as to what activities they are involved in.
